Mushroom, Ricordea Pink/Red. The Pacific Red/Orange Ricordea has short, club, or berry-shaped tentacles
and shares some similarities to stony corals. It is also
known as a Disc Anemone, and is found in a variety of color forms, but this type is an amazing vivid red/orange coloration. This
species is highly prized and makes a vibrant addition to
any reef aquarium. It requires a medium to high light level, but metal halide lighting may be too bright, so when using
this type of lighting, place the coral at the bottom of the aquarium. It prefers a low water movement within the aquarium
and is considered semi-aggressive, requiring adequate
space between itself and other corals. |

Brain Coral, Lobophyllia. The Lobophyllia Brain Coral is a large polyp stony coral referred to
by a variety of names. It has fleshy polyps that hide its calcareous skeleton
and is found in a variety of textures and color forms. Colors vary from bright red, green, orange, gray, tan, or brown. Its behavior is semi-aggressive and it will sting other corals with its extended sweeper tentacles during the night. Provide plenty of space between it and other neighboring corals.
It is easy to maintain in the reef aquarium, making it
an excellent candidate for even the beginning reef
aquarist. It requires moderate to strong lighting
combined with a moderate water movement within the
aquarium. |
Mushroom, Green Ricordea. The Ricordea florida mushroom corals are some of the most colorful corals available in the industry. This variety is mostly blue in color with shades of pink, purple and yellow. The oral disc of these
corals is often neon green in color and are further intensified under fluorescent actinic lighting. It will adapt to a wide variety of lighting conditions,
but care should be taken to acclimate it to metal halide lighting. It prefers a low water movement
and is considered semi-aggressive, requiring adequate
space between itself and other corals. These Ricordea
Mushrooms are sold per polyp and are shipped unattached,
or attached to a piece of gravel with no rock. |
Orange Sun Coral. As you can see
this hot orange and pink sun coral opens not only at
night, but during the day so you can enjoy this coral at
all times. |

White Bubble Coral. This coral
is from the reefs of the Indo-Pacific and has a white-ridged hard skeleton that can be seen when the polyps are deflated. When inflated, these polyps will cover the entire skeleton and are white or yellowish in color.
These corals posses sweeper tentacles that can harm other corals within reach.
It requires a moderate level of lighting with low to moderate water movement,
as too much water flow may impede the coral from fully expanding. The polyps of
these corals are very fragile and will puncture easily,
so care should be taken when handling them. |
Blue Tortuosa Coral. The Blue
Tortuosa Coral prefers a moderately high light level
combined with strong intermittent water current within
the aquarium. It grows in a branchy form with multiple
long appendages. For continued good health, it
will require the addition of supplemental calcium,
strontium, and other trace elements to the water.
It is very sought after because of its rich coloring,
but should only be considered for an established reef
aquarium. |
